What's A Zine? Part 3
Written by Elizabeth J.M.W.

How do I let people know about my zine?

If you've made a zine, you can use many of the methods mentioned in the “How do I find Zines?” section to let people know about your zine, such as posting on internet message boards, or by sending your zine to be reviewed by a review zine. You can also submit you zine to distros. Only submit your zine to a distro if they are accepting submissions aka looking for new zines to carry, and look through their catalogue of zines to see if your zine fits the rest of what the distro carries – you wouldn't want to send your recipe zine to a distro that only carries travel zines.

There are many other ways to get the word out about your zine: making little flyers to send in the mail, having a website to promote your zine, trading links with other zinesters who have webpages, making posters, making buttons, handing your zine out to friends, leaving copies of your zine on buses, word of mouth, etc.

It is a good idea to have a PO Box when receiving orders for your zine, instead of using your home address.

Who wrote this article?

My name is Elizabeth and I have been involved in zines for about three or four years. I have learned all that I have written from helpful people in the zine community, reading other zines about zines, reading books and webpages about zines, watching movies about zines, reading actual zines, and making my own zines.

I wrote this because whenever people ask me what a zine is I have a hard time explaining, so I figured I could still try to explain verbally but I'd also be able to hand them this (printed out) (hopefully) helpful zine. If you have questions or comments you can email me: “zine398 AT care2 DOT com”
